Resident LibraryThe J. Iverson
Riddle Developmental Center Resident Library is located in the basement of the gym. Books, audio cassettes, and
videotapes/DVDs for resident use are located in the Resident Library. Staff Library A variety of books and professional journals are available in the Staff Library located in Room 40 in the basement of the gym.
Because of budget and space constraints, the collections of books and professional journals are somewhat limited. However, through the State Interlibrary Loan System and the Northwest Area Health Education Center Libraries,
JIRDC staff have access to many specialized, academic, and public libraries throughout North Carolina and the southeast region of the United States. Computer bibliographic searches in the fields of medicine, pharmacology,
psychology, education, and other disciplines can be conducted in the Staff Library using Medline, PsycINFO, ERIC, and a number of other databases. The JIRDC Library Technical Assistant (LTA)
provides residents, staff, interns, and students affiliated with JIRDC with library services. This includes access to local book, journal, and audiovisual collections as well as those available through interlibrary loan and our association with Northwest AHEC. The LTA assists patrons in locating and obtaining materials on campus and through outside sources, conducts literature searches, answers reference questions, and maintains library collections as well as ordering and processing new materials for use. The LTA also serves as backup for
Learning Resource Center and Computer Lab duties and assists with other Staff Development activities as needed.
Northwest AHEC The JIRDC Library Technical Assistant acts as a contact person between Center staff and Northwest AHEC staff to facilitate interaction. The following knowledge-based information services are provided
