What interpreting services are available? Staff Development schedules sign language interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing people who live and work at J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center (JIRDC). The department also schedules interpreters for deaf and hard-of-hearing persons seeking employment at the Center or who are participating in official functions of, or activities sponsored by, the Center. |
How is an interpreter scheduled? Interpreter requests should come from the supervisor or from the person in charge of scheduling and planning the function. If possible, the request should be made in writing using the Staff Development form, Request for Interpreter, at least seven (7) working days prior to the event. E-mail or telephone requests to Steffi Adams, 433-2774, are also accepted.Requests must include who needs an interpreter, when, where, length of time, type of meeting, and a contact person. If the site is not at JIRDC, driving directions to the location, street address of the location, and a telephone number at the location are required. There may also be "special" situations that require an interpreter with different skills, ex: musical performance or NCI class. In these situations a specific person may be contacted as interpreter. |
How do I cancel an interpreter? If a meeting is changed or cancelled, the interpreter must be cancelled at least 48 hours prior to the previously scheduled time. The time frame for this notification is critical because a late cancellation results in the Center paying for the service. To cancel an interpreter, contact Steffi Adams in Staff Development. You may contact her by phone (433-2774), campus mail (#2), e-mail, or in person. |
