The 200+-acre J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center campus provides a residential setting that includes homes, recreation areas, vocational opportunities, and open space in a natural environment.

Sleepy Hollow Park offers residents on-campus opportunities for outdoor meals and relaxation.  All campus parks include covered shelters, picnic tables, and natural green space.

Exceptional Equestrians
Animal Assisted Therapy/Exceptional Equestrians

Through horseback riding and horse-related activities, the Exceptional Equestrian Program provides an innovative means of therapy and education for individuals with severe mental, physical, and emotional challenges.

Barnyard Acres allows those living and working at the Center to interact with farm animals such as goats and dogs.

The Helen Davis Riddle Park (commonly called the Duck Pond) provides opportunities for watching waterfowl, fishing, and boating.

 

Volunteer Services
Volunteer Services

The Volunteer Services Department coordinates the activities of community members on the campus.  This includes individual and group volunteers, sponsors, Senior Corps members, and Volunteens.

 

Pandora's Box
Pandora's Box

Pandora's Box is a storage area for donated items and a work area for Volunteer Services staff.  This cottage on Enola Road is the traditional meeting place for sponsors and others dropping off contributions. 

Anyone needing access to Pandora's Box should contact the Volunteer Services office at 828-433-2614 to set up an appointment.

 

Family, Infant and Preschool Program
Family, Infant and Preschool Program

The Family, Infant and Preschool Program (FIPP) is an early childhood and family support program working with women who are pregnant and children birth through 8 years of age and their families in Western North Carolina.  FIPP works in partnership with families using family-centered practices, based on respect for families' beliefs and values, as well as their cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
