Therapeutic Recreation at the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center focuses on three aspects within the realm of Recreation. These include Recreation Therapy, Leisure Education, and Recreation Participation. The purpose of the therapy service is to develop or refine functional behaviors. The Recreation Therapist is a member of the interdisciplinary team and the therapy focuses on team identified treatment goals in recreation. Leisure Education focuses on providing opportunities for the acquisition of skills, knowledge, and attitudes related to leisure involvement. The third component of this concept is Recreation Participation which involves providing opportunities which allow consumers to voluntary participate in their recreation interests and favorite activities. The Recreation Therapists within the cottage are responsible for serving the needs of the consumers through a Person Centered Plan that establishes their individual strengths, needs and preferences in Recreation and Leisure. They are the "fun" people and provide alot of creative activities throughout the year for the people that reside at the Center. For more information, write to Julia Dale. |
