Masks, goggles, or face shields are worn when splashes, sprays, droplets of blood, or other potentially infectious
materials could reach your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Gowns or aprons should be worn any time blood or other potentially infectious fluids might reach your clothes.
Your
supervisor will show you where these items are located in your work area. Clean linen rooms or nurses stations are the most common storage areas.
Examples of times that this type of equipment might be needed are:
when helping medical staff draw blood or
complete a procedure where bleeding occurs
if a person is coughing or spitting mucous or saliva
when working with people who have respiratory MRSA and the site of the MRSA is uncovered
Your supervisor or the nurse will let you know if you need to use this equipment with anyone.
