What is a "sharp"? A sharp is any device having corners, edges, or projections that is capable of cutting,
puncturing, or piercing the skin. Examples of sharps are needles, razor blades, and broken glass. |

Special containers, known as sharp boxes, are available for medical and laboratory staff to use when disposing of needles.
When these boxes are full, they are taken to the laboratory for disposal of the contents. Disposable razors should be discarded into the sharp box after each use. Broken glass or other dangerous sharp objects should be
given to the housekeepers in the living and service areas for proper disposal. |
